Arthritis Week - 2009

World Arthritis Day has been celebrated since 1996 by ARI (Arthritis Rheumatism International) on October 12th. Each year this day is dedicated for creating awareness about Arthritis. This day is a wakeup call for the policy makers, planners, healthcare providers who must take cognizance of key considerations for patients suffering from Arthritis. This is the only way that the pain and disability due to arthritis can be eased out of life of these patients.

This year the Theme was ‘Small things matter for people with Arthritis’.

The AIMS of World Arthritis Day are:

	To raise awareness of arthritis in all forms among the medical community, people with arthritis and the general public
	To influence public policy by making decision makers aware of the burden of arthritis and the steps this can be taken to ease it.
	To ensure all people with arthritis and their care givers are aware of the vast support network to them.

Sancheti hospital’s Joint Replacement Centre, one of its kind hospital dedicated to Orthopaedics and Replacement Surgeries has taken a step forward in this regard and its latest initiative is “FIGHT ARTHRITIS”. A week long awareness drive was organized from 5th October to 12th October 2009.

Fight Arthritis drive was set off in Sancheti hospital on 5th October at the hands of Dr K H Sancheti, Dr.Parag Sancheti and Dr.Dilip Sarda and few eminent orthopaedics consultants were also present during this event. Moments of Inauguration

During this week long exercise many activities were organized to achieve the desired aim set for the week. Activities like “ENLIGHTEN” which was organized to spread awareness about arthritis workshops were organized at different locations in Pune like Athashri, ALARD University, and Sancheti Hospital. Around 250 people from all age groups benefited from these workshops. At the same time in Sancheti Joint Replacement Centre, free OPD consulting and discounted investigations were performed. As a part of the Sancheti Fight Arthritis Week, Sancheti Hospital had organised free consultancy "LET'S TALK" and discount on selected investigation in Sancheti Hospital. This programme received an over whelming response and many people took advantage of this activity. About 200 to 250 patients were consulted by surgeons of Sancheti Hospital within these 4 day's. On 10th October “EXPRESSION”, an in house Art activity was conducted which had an overwhelming response. In this, through the medium of Art, Artist expressed the life of arthritis patients. Moments Of EXPRESSION

On 11th October a major event called “WALK – A - THON” which also received a good response wherein more than 3000 Puneites participated along with Ms Sonali Kulkarni, Mr. Sameer Dharmadhikari who were also present to lead the WALK-A-THON. Poona cycle association also enthusiastically participated in this event. A dance group called Hrishikesh’s School of Contempary Dance performed a Theme Dance related to arthritis which was widely acclaimed. Moments Of WALK – A - THON

On eve of World Arthritis Day, a “SEMINAR” was held in association with Indian Medical Association about “Recent Advances in Arthritis Management” was conducted at the IMA house, Tilak Road. Eminent speakers like Dr K Sancheti, Dr Parag Sancheti and Dr Lata Bichale delivered a talk on “Recent Advances in Operative and Non Operative management of Arthritis”. Dr Lata Bichale was presented a lifetime achievement award for her contributions in field of Rheumatology. More than 150 doctors took the benefit of this academic feast. Moments Of Seminar

On 12th October World Arthritis Day, Fight Arthritis campaign was concluded with a “Unite Together” about 100 people took part in this event; there was an interaction between operated patient and patient taking physiotherapy and on medicines. They also had an informal chat with Dr K H Sancheti, Dr Parag Sancheti, Dr Rajiv Joshi, Dr Surendra Patil and Dr Qaed Dhariwal and other consultants from Sancheti Joint Replacement Centre. A human chain of operated patients symbolized the fact that arthritis is treatable and manageable, setting example for others. Moments Of Unite Together

On the same day Indian Medical Association in association with Sancheti Hospital organized an “Open House Discussion” especially to educate people about the facts and figures about arthritis, common question related to arthritis were also attended and discussed by Joint Replacement Surgeons from Sancheti Hospital.
